If you think you are having a poor resume because of your key words, font selection or other design aspect, you are completely wrong! Your resume is poor due to lack of experience which do not meet the employer needs.
Everybody, even me myself when I was a fresh grad, had asked the same question to myself. "All companies asking for experience. How do i get experience when i don't even have my first job?"
The answer for that golden question is easy - create your own experience! NO, i didn't mean by faking experience or cheating some work that you never do before. Four ways to create experience in your resume are as below.
First, is by volunteering. By volunteering, you get connected with people, thus will increase your social and relation skills by making new contacts and friends.
Second, you can also start a business. You will learn so much by going through the business process and although you may have your day job, your business will be your ticket to building experience in an area of focus.
Third is by completing a project. Start a project or join forces with others to champion a project. Once the project is complete, decide when to do another. There is a shorter time commitment on projects (depending on the project) and you can do as many that you want….racking up the experience!
Forth way to add experience in your resume is by asking for more responsibility. Don’t just do what you are paid to do at work – ask for more responsibility. Seek opportunity to expand your experience.
Once you have the experience you need, your resume will be improved. Your experience is what makes you valuable because it is through experience that we have opportunity to achieve and to learn.
No one achieves anything from reading a book other than having read the book. You need to go out and put your knowledge into practice. If your biggest challenge to getting your dream job is that you don’t have experience, the great news is that you directly control this variable.
